I am now covering a topic that will most certainly help me to incur the wrath of just about everyone. The word of God spends two entire chapters in the book of Revelation devoted to one subject and one subject only. It is a topic that brings a deathly silence to the church world when brought up. Jesus puts this subject in all capitals in the Bible just so you won’t miss it: “MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND THE ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH” (Revelation 17:5). Who this “MOTHER OF HARLOTS” is becomes readily apparent after reading both chapters in Revelation and looking at the clues one by one. What I will do is examine each clue given in both chapters, verse by verse, and show without a doubt that the infamous “Whore of Babylon” is none other than the Roman Catholic Church System along with all of its children that spawned from it who partook of her false doctrines. These children include numerous Protestant churches who either came from her or adhere to her damnable heresies including the Trinity, the false bible, and all the other elements that make up her false and blasphemous gospel. We are now ready for a study that will affect just about every churchgoer in the land, for nearly all adhere in one form or another to the damnable heresies of the great whore.

If you are a caught up within this church, I will demonstrate my love by caring enough to tell you the truth even if no one else will. Preaching to you the true gospel is an act of God’s love; it’s cowardice and callous to not confront those who are entangled in the Whore’s web of deceit. Church tradition is thick, but Jesus’ blood is ever thicker. Consider what I have to say in the light of what the scriptures teach, but don’t make it a personal issue with me. I am a messenger, not the message.

There is a false church, and she is the richest, most powerful organization in the world. After you see each one of her marks below, you won’t need me to convince you. You’ll either be in denial because you’re in this church yourself, or you’ll be too afraid to admit it to others. Hopefully, you’ll be neither and show people why God thought it was important enough to spend two entire chapters in the last book of the Bible on it. Either way, let’s get started unraveling a true conspiracy that has over two billion people in its worldwide tentacles.

The disciple John is shown a vision for the last days by an angel from God, and in verse one of Revelation chapter seventeen the angel proclaims to John “the judgment of the great whore that sitteth upon many waters.” We know from previous scriptures that a whore is not just a prostitute but can also be applied to a spiritual prostitute, or one that “goeth a whoring” from the true God to other gods.

Here are a few verses to show that the word “whores” as used in Revelation means those that teach a false gospel and lead others astray: “Do not prostitute thy daughter, to cause her to be a whore; lest the land fall to whoredom, and the land become full of wickedness” (Lev. 19:29); “But draw near hither, ye sons of the sorceress, the seed of the adulterer and the whore” (Isaiah 57:3); “Because of the multitude of the whoredoms of the wellfavoured harlot, the mistress of witchcrafts, that selleth nations through her whoredoms, and families through her witchcrafts” (Nahum 3:4); “And he saith unto me, The waters which thou sawest, where the whore sitteth, are peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues” (Revelation 17:15); “For true and righteous are his judgments: for he hath judged the great whore, which did corrupt the earth with her fornication, and hath avenged the blood of his servants at her hand” (Revelation 19:2); “And the woman which thou sawest is that great city, which reigneth over the kings of the earth” (Revelation 17:18).

You would think that if God gave us forty-nine separate clues as to whom this “Mystery Babylon” is, we would figure it out. God obviously gave us enough evidence. You don’t need CSI to help you on this one. Now we will begin the study of “the great whore,” “Mystery Babylon,” verse by verse, clue by clue.

19 Identifiers of the False Church

in Revelation Chapter 17

False church is called “the great whore”

“And there came one of the seven angels which had the seven vials, and talked with me, saying unto me, Come hither; I will shew unto thee the judgment of the great whore that sitteth upon many waters” (Revelation 17:1).

As a whore is a cheap substitute for a real wife, so is this whore a substitute for the real church of Jesus. As mentioned above, God calls anyone a whore who goes after false gods: “Lest thou make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land, and they go a whoring after their gods, and do sacrifice unto their gods, and one call thee, and thou eat of his sacrifice” (Exodus 34:15); “And the soul that turneth after such as have familiar spirits, and after wizards, to go a whoring after them, I will even set my face against that soul, and will cut him off from among his people” (Leviticus 20:6).

The difference with this whore is that she is called “the great whore that sitteth upon many waters”. This church is called “great” because it is obviously a huge, worldwide religious system. The Bible uses the term “great” in this same manner to speak of world leaders who controlled vast empires. The fact that the whore sits on many waters means that she dominates over many nations as shown in a later verse in this same chapter: “And he saith unto me, The waters which thou sawest, where the whore sitteth, are peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues” (Revelation 17:15). Therefore, in this first verse, we have a worldwide, false religious system that dominates over many nations and languages.

False church committed fornication with kings

“With whom the kings of the earth have committed fornication, and the inhabitants of the earth have been made drunk with the wine of her fornication” (Revelation 17:2).

This false religion (the great whore) has spread herself to the kings of the earth and most of the inhabitants of the earth. She is in bed with all the major leaders of this world, and thereby her political power is enormous.

False church makes the earth drunk

“With whom the kings of the earth have committed fornication, and the inhabitants of the earth have been made drunk with the wine of her fornication” (Revelation 17:2).

Not only are kings are under her sway, but also the general population of the world has been “made drunk” by her. They are drunk with her seductive, false teachings that damn men’s souls. The Bible uses the term “drunk” to speak, not just of wine, but of spiritual drunkenness: “Stay yourselves, and wonder; cry ye out, and cry: they are drunken, but not with wine; they stagger, but not with strong drink. For the Lord hath poured out upon you the spirit of deep sleep, and hath closed your eyes: the prophets and your rulers, the seers hath he covered” (Isaiah 29:9-10). Both have committed fornication with her (partook of her “wine” which would be the fruit of her teachings).

One of the main matching scriptures and Old Testament references to this church system is first mentioned by the prophet Jeremiah: “Babylon hath been a golden cup in the Lord’s hand, that made all the earth drunken: the nations have drunken of her wine; therefore the nations are mad” (Jeremiah 51:7). This exact language is used in Revelation. For those who think it is just Babylon and not the present day Roman Catholic system, one only need read Hislop’s The Two Babylons to see that these two systems are identical, with one just being the fulfillment of the other. This false religious system was evidenced in Babylon in Old Testament times and is now carried over into the Roman Catholic Church system and all her daughters. All of the same practices like mother/son worship, the Eucharist, etc., are evident today.

False church is full of names of blasphemy

“So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness: and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns” (Revelation 17:3).

How this false church is blasphemous is easily shown. She has names of blasphemy officially posted on many of her relics, garments, buildings, etc. The fact that this church calls Mary, Jesus’ mother, the “co-redeemer” is about as blasphemous as you can get. Mary no more redeemed you than Adolf Hitler did. Mary was a sinner who called God “my saviour.” If you are in doubt as to whom your only redeemer is, may I remind you of the words of Isaiah the prophet: “As for our redeemer, the Lord of hosts is his name, the Holy One of Israel” (Isaiah 47:4).

The fact that they call the Pope “The Holy Father” is evidence that blasphemy is no big thing with this church. There is only one Holy Father, of course, and that is God and God alone: “And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are” (John 17:11).

False church sits on seven heads (see false church sits on seven mountains (hills) below)

False church’s official colors are purple and scarlet

“And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication” (Revelation 17:4).

The official colors of the Roman Catholic Church are scarlet and purple. Everyone from the Pope down to the local priest wear robes having these very colors.

False church is decked with gold, precious stones, and pearls

“And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication” (Revelation 17:4).

Everywhere you look in this church system, there is “gold, and precious stones, and pearls.” It’s on their crosses, their statues, their relics, their buildings, their clothing, and their churches. The Vatican is said to own more paintings and more treasures than any other organization in the world. Their wealth is practically inestimable, mainly because of its immensity and its priceless value. The Sistine Chapel’s paintings alone would sell for billions.

False church has a golden cup in her hand

“And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication” (Revelation 17:4).

This church teaches salvation through it and it alone, and one of its main tools for that is the cup of communion, done many times in golden cups throughout the world. You must partake of it on a regular basis to get your sins forgiven according to their damnable doctrines.

False church is full of abominations and fornication

“And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication” (Revelation 17:4).

In the light of the sex scandal that has rocked the church in the last few years (and all throughout history for that matter), this scripture takes on even more relevance. No church has seen the abominations on such a large scale as this one. With all of its molestations of young boys and nuns, this church fits in to this description in Revelation like a glove. What else could match this description of the church but to say it is “full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication.”

False church has a mystery religion

“And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH” (Revelation 17:5).

The Roman Catholic church proclaims that she is the keeper of all the great mysteries of the faith, everything from the mystery of its so-called Trinity and Eucharist, to the supposed mysteries of Mary and the papacy.

False church is called “BABYLON THE GREAT”

“And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH” (Revelation 17:5).

This church system is a continuation of the Babylonian mystery religion that worshipped a female deity and its child-the mother and child worship found only in the Catholic church. What’s interesting about the name Babylon is the word “baby” in its title. It is a direct reference to the mother-child baby worship that is prevalent in the church. Statues of Mary often show her holding Jesus as a baby. Jesus is rarely seen as a grown man. Babylon was “Babyland” and still is.

False church is called “THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS”

And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH” (Revelation 17:5).

It is stated that there are more prostitutes in Rome than anywhere on Earth. With the supposed celibacy of their priests, this church has to meet the needs of its priests, and what is done, of course, is the use of the harlot on a regular basis. On the spiritual level, the church as “THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS” speaks of her giving birth to more harlots, and this can be none other than giving birth to more churches like herself, even those who supposedly broke away from her but in reality didn’t (i.e., the Prostestants). Other churches keeping the Roman Church’s main doctrine of the Trinity and salvation by works, using its false bibles, and keeping its Nicolationism (superiority of the clergy) shows the mother that the child hasn’t strayed too far.

False church is called “ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH”

“And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH” (Revelation 17:5).

Rape, incest, homosexual fornication, mafia killing, indulgences, spiritual slavery, child molestation, and religious bondage to every idol under the sun are just a few of the abominations this church is accused of on a daily basis.

False church is drunk with the martyrs’ blood

“And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus: and when I saw her, I wondered with great admiration” (Revelation 17:6).

A quick read of Fox’s Book of Martyrs will show you who has been responsible for more deaths to Christians than any other organization in the history of the world. The Inquisition killed millions of course, but it didn’t stop there. According to scripture, she has insatiable desire for the blood of the saints, and will stop at nothing to get it. She gets “drunk” from it according to Revelation. Any study of martyrdom will always point to the Roman Catholic Church as the perpetrator if this study is honest.

False church produces great admiration, wonder, and marvel from the world

“And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus: and when I saw her, I wondered with great admiration” (Revelation 17:6).

The Apostle John marveled at this monstrosity, and he “wondered with great admiration” because of its sheer power, influence, and corruption. John had never seen such a thing when he got a glimpse of the last days’ false church. If we were him, we would have had the same feelings. He could not believe what he was seeing; this false church was holding sway over the entire world and yet was corrupt to its core.

False church is carried by the beast

“And the angel said unto me, Wherefore didst thou marvel? I will tell thee the mystery of the woman, and of the beast that carrieth her, which hath the seven heads and ten horns” (Revelation 17:7).

The “beast” referred to here is the Antichrist, and he “carrieth her,” symbolizing his using of the church for his diabolical purposes. He makes a temporary alliance with the false church to further his plans for worldwide domination.

False church is headquartered on seven mountains (hills) in Europe

“And here is the mind which hath wisdom. The seven heads are seven mountains, on which the woman sitteth” (Revelation 17:9).

Perhaps no one thing identifies this false church and nails the case shut as this characteristic found in Revelation. This church is centered on a city that sits on seven hills. Rome is famous as “he city of seven hills.” There is no other site in the world that fits this description as the headquarters of a false religious system that rules the world. The Vatican is its own country, and presidents and kings have to come to it for its blessing, or they lose the support of their people in their country, most of whom are Catholic in a majority of countries.

False church covers the whole world

“And he saith unto me, The waters which thou sawest, where the whore sitteth, are peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues” (Revelation 17:15).

The whore (false church) sits on many waters, and this is defined in Revelation as many “peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues.” In other words, this system is worldwide, covering a multitude of nations and languages. With over a billion blind adherents, this church system is the largest in the world. It wields more power and influence than any country or organization on earth.

False church is in a city reigning over the kings of the earth

“And the woman which thou sawest is that great city, which reigneth over the kings of the earth” (Revelation 17:18).

By saying this church “reigneth over the kings of the earth,” it is saying that it has more power than the kings, and it does. Kings used to get crowned by the pope, and no president or king can get where he is without the support of the Vatican. It literally does reign over kings. The Catholic Church officially claims it has authority over every earthly ruler, and that is why all of its churchgoers give allegiance to the Pope over any ruler.

Revelation Chapter 18

False church is called the place of devils and the hold of every foul spirit

“And he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird” (Revelation 18:2).

The word of God says devils live in system, and it has “every unclean and hateful bird”. Birds are used in scripture many times to refer to devils.

False church makes all nations drunk with her fornication

“For all nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication…”(Revelation 18:3).

Again, this church’s main activity is fornication, not just physical, but spiritual as mentioned earlier. This type of fornication involves sleeping with every religion and false doctrine and every god of the world.

False church fornicated with kings

“…the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her…” (Revelation 18:3).

Again, this church system is powerful enough to know and be in bed with the major rulers of this world, its politicians and key people in power. Because of this, her wealth and power are almost inestimable.

False church made earth’s merchants rich

“…the merchants of the earth are waxed rich through the abundance of her delicacies” (Revelation 18:3).

Churches are one of the world’s economies greatest customers, for its buildings and programs and merchandise rival some of the biggest corporations out there.

False church entraps believers

“And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues” (Revelation 18:4).

This verse proves again that this a spiritual, church system, for some of God’s people are caught up in her and are told to come out of her. Notice that it says we partake of her sins if we are involved with her.

False church will be plagued by God

“And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues‘ (Revelation 18:4).

If you want to be a part of God’s plague, just stay in this system.

False church sinned more than anyone

“For her sins have reached unto heaven, and God hath remembered her iniquities” (Revelation 18:5).

This system sins more than the heathen world, for her sins are in the name of God.

False church is supposed to be rewarded with punishment from the true saints of God

“Reward her even as she rewarded you, and double unto her double according to her works: in the cup which she hath filled fill to her double” (Revelation 18:6).

What an amazing verse that few know of. The saints of God are told to punish this church system and give her much grief. When have you heard that preached?

False church glorifies itself richly

“How much she hath glorified herself, and lived deliciously, so much torment and sorrow give her: for she saith in her heart, I sit a queen, and am no widow, and shall see no sorrow” (Revelation 18:7).

Another prime example of how this chapter identifies this church system. This church claims to be a queen, one who is married to the King, the King of Kings. She says she shall see no “sorrow.” She claims to be the bride of Christ and not a widow.

False church is to be given “much torment and sorrow” by the true saints

“How much she hath glorified herself, and lived deliciously, so much torment and sorrow give her…” (Revelation 18:7).

A matching verse to the one above and quite startling in its own right. We are to give “much torment and sorrow” to this church system. Do we do that, or do we tolerate her?

False church will be judged and burned with fire“

Therefore shall her plagues come in one day, death, and mourning, and famine; and she shall be utterly burned with fire: for strong is the Lord God who judgeth her” (Revelation 18:8).

False church’s judgment cried over by all the kings of the earth

“And the kings of the earth, who have committed fornication and lived deliciously with her, shall bewail her, and lament for her, when they shall see the smoke of her burning” (Revelation 18:9).

False church’s “great and mighty” city burned

“Standing afar off for the fear of her torment, saying, Alas, alas, that great city Babylon, that mighty city! for in one hour is thy judgment come” (Revelation 18:10).

False church can’t sell her merchandise anymore to all merchants of the earth

“And the merchants of the earth shall weep and mourn over her; for no man buyeth their merchandise any more” (Revelation 18:11).

False church sold idols made of gold, silver, pearls, precious stones, ivory, precious wood, brass, iron, and marble.

‘The merchandise of gold, and silver, and precious stones, and of pearls, and fine linen, and purple, and silk, and scarlet, and all thyine wood, and all manner vessels of ivory, and all manner vessels of most precious wood, and of brass, and iron, and marble” (Revelation 18:12).

False church has frankincense, oil, flour, and wheat

“…frankincense, and wine, and oil, and fine flour, and wheat, and beasts, and sheep, and horses, and chariots…” (Revelation 18:13).

False church has slaves and enslaves the souls of men

“And cinnamon, and odours, and ointments, and frankincense, and wine, and oil, and fine flour, and wheat, and beasts, and sheep, and horses, and chariots, and slaves, and souls of men” (Revelation 18:13).

This passage proves that she is in the business of making proselytes, for it says she deals with the “souls of men.”

False church lusts after “dainty and goodly” things

“And the fruits that thy soul lusted after are departed from thee, and all things which were dainty and goodly are departed from thee, and thou shalt find them no more at all” (Revelation 18:14).

False church made merchants of the earth rich by buying these things

“The merchants of these things, which were made rich by her, shall stand afar off for the fear of her torment, weeping and wailing” (Revelation 18:15).

False church is clothed in fine linen, purple, and scarlet; decked with gold, pearls, and precious stones.

“And saying, Alas, alas, that great city, that was clothed in fine linen, and purple, and scarlet, and decked with gold, and precious stones, and pearls!” (Revelation 18:16).

False church said to have “great riches”

“For in one hour so great riches is come to nought. And every shipmaster, and all the company in ships, and sailors, and as many as trade by sea, stood afar off” (Revelation 18:17).

False church’s city is unique in the earth

“And cried when they saw the smoke of her burning, saying, What city is like unto this great city!” (Revelation 18:18).

False church made ship-building nations rich

“And they cast dust on their heads, and cried, weeping and wailing, saying, Alas, alas, that great city, wherein were made rich all that had ships in the sea by reason of her costliness! for in one hour is she made desolate” (Revelation 18:19).

False church’s destruction is rejoiced over by saints

“Rejoice over her, thou heaven, and ye holy apostles and prophets; for God hath avenged you on her” (Revelation 18:20).

False church will be utterly destroyed by God

“And a mighty angel took up a stone like a great millstone, and cast it into the sea, saying, Thus with violence shall that great city Babylon be thrown down, and shall be found no more at all” (Revelation 18:21).

False church has musicians and craftsmen inside it

“And the voice of harpers, and musicians, and of pipers, and trumpeters, shall be heard no more at all in thee; and no craftsman, of whatsoever craft he be, shall be found any more in thee; and the sound of a millstone shall be heard no more at all in thee” (Revelation 18:22).

False church has voice of Jesus and the saints in it

“And the light of a candle shall shine no more at all in thee; and the voice of the bridegroom and of the bride shall be heard no more at all in thee: for thy merchants were the great men of the earth…”(Revelation 18:23).

False church deceived men by religious sorcery

“…for thy merchants were the great men of the earth; for by thy sorceries were all nations deceived” (Revelation 18:23).

False church is responsible for the deaths of all the martyred prophets and saints

“And in her was found the blood of prophets, and of saints, and of all that were slain upon the earth” (Revelation 18:24).
